Joint meeting of Austrian, Hungarian, Slovenian and Serbian Societies for Extracellular Vesicles

Gratz, Austria, September 4. – 5. 2023

Members of the FerroReg team participated in Small New World 2.0, a joint meeting of Austrian, Hungarian, Slovenian and Serbian Societies for Extracellular Vesicles, which took place in Medical University of Gratz, Austria from September 4. – 5. 2023. The current project results were presented in poster session. Exosomes as biologically active extracellular vesicles (EVs) can carry miRNAs and are easily delivered across blood – brain barrier. The aim of FerroReg project is to provide data about the difference in network interplay of exosome carried miRNAs and peripheral blood mononuclear cells mRNA between mild and progressive MS phenotypes, in context of ferroptosis process regulation. The brain derived fraction of exosomes was confirmed in circulation of MS patients. MiRNA expression in exosomes was correlated with ferroptosis related genes in MS. Further research will provide additional data on exosome signature and miRNA content in MS patients. These results will direct ongoing research regarding the preservation of cognitive status and neuroprotection in MS. FerroReg project was also presented in the Network section by the president of Serbian society for EVs, Maja Kosanovic. The speakers from over 15 countries have presented the up to date technological advances in the purification and characterization of EVs, from basic science to the application in diagnostics and therapeutics. We had great time in Gratz exchanging experiences about EVs with researchers from the region.
